About the Tennessee Valley Chapter of SOLE.

SOLE - The International Society of Logistics is a non-profit international professional society composed of individuals organized to enhance the art and science of logistics technology, education and management. SOLE was founded in 1966 as the Society of Logistics Engineers "to engage in educational, scientific, and literary endeavors to advance the art of logistics technology and management." Chapters, including our Tennessee Valley Chapter, conduct technical meetings, symposia and workshops, all designed to provide the SOLE member with opportunities for professional advancement. Today, there are over 3,000 SOLE members organized into 90 chapters located in over 30 countries throughout the world. The Tennessee Valley Chapter is officially designated as Chapter 2 of District 5.  Our own membership has grown in the past two years to just over 250 members.

Our chapter believes that the maximum interchange of knowledge between all elements of the logistics community is vital to the continued development of the logistics profession. For this reason, SOLE works very closely with other professional societies and is co-sponsor of important technical symposia. One of these is the Annual Government Industry Supportability Engineering Exchange co-sponsored with the US Army Logistics Support Activity (LOGSA). We have recently co-hosted luncheons and conferences with the Army Aviation Association of America, the AMCOM Integrated Material Management Center, and the Huntsville Aerospace Marketing Association.

Career Building

Through stimulating luncheons, seminars and conferences, you'll discover new techniques to make your job easier and to keep you on top of the latest technology. You'll learn about DoD Logistics Initiatives, Electronic Data Management and Logistics Support Analysis (LSA) plus much more.

SOLE provides a forum for networking, problem solving, and friendship building among the logistics professionals throughout the region. You'll get the technical support you need to become a member of a prestigious group of Certified Professional Logisticians (CPLs).

You'll also receive SOLE's membership publications and have the opportunity to publish and present your own technical papers. As a member of SOLE, you'll join the thousands of logisticians who have the most up-to-date information and comprehensive support programs available.

Your Window into Logistics

Logistics looks at the big picture -- product concept through disposal. By definition, logistics is a professional discipline that ensures the successful support of the product throughout its life. From design engineering to manufacturing and materials, packaging and marketing, and distribution and disposition, logistics involves every possible phase of the product support process. As a member of SOLE, you'll enjoy a window into logistics, because SOLE is the only professional organization to encompass every facet of the field.

You'll see how you impact not just one component of a product, but its entire life cycle. You'll sharpen your understanding of how you affect the overall product, and share the information and support of those working in other product areas.

You'll become a more knowledgeable logistician, and that means more value for your employer and your profession. In short, SOLE is a much-needed link to excel in the wide, interrelated field of logistics.

The Meaning of the SOLE Emblem

SOLE LogoThe founding fathers of our Society were deliberate and very perceptive in their
selection of a design to express SOLE's range of interest and purpose in a simple logo. They believed that the logo should have colors to express the applications of logistics elements and technology on the land, at sea, in the air and in the new frontiers of space with gold sympolizing the land; blue, the sea; white, the air; and black, the outer reaches of space.

These colors remind us of the "where" of logistics applications - the symbols of "alpha" at the top and "omega" at the bottom of the logo remind us of the "when" of logistics. These symbols highlight the requirement that logistics be considered and involved in the planning of every product or program from A to Z, from alpha to omega, or from the beginning to the end.
